Earth's Layers/Plate Tectonics Quiz Review

I have put together a review game to help students prepare for their quiz tomorrow. Simply follow the directions below to play! Good luck!

1. Open http://join.quizizz.com in your browser
2. Enter the 5-digit game code 592047, and click "Proceed"

Students have been working on a foldable in preparation for the upcoming quiz. Foldables were taken home today so that students could use them to study. Some students may not have finished their foldables. I am attaching the sections of the textbook that apply to the foldable. Students should use the information in the text along with their directions to complete the assignment.

Continental Drift

Sea Floor Spreading

Divergent, Convergent, and Transform Boundaries

Plate Tectonics

As we begin to talk about the movement of tectonic plates and the features of the Earth that result from the movement, take a look at the video below. It does a really nice job of summarizing all of the information in one place and connects what we learned about the interior of the Earth to plate tectonics. If it were possible, I would purchase this wonderfully made pop-up book! :) Also linked below are the notes we completed in class!

Theory of Plate Tectonics Notes

Earth's Interior/Heat Transfer Notes

In class, we have been looking at the interior layers of the Earth. We completed a project earlier this week that including constructing a model of the layers of the Earth. The notes we took in class summarizes the main information students are responsible for knowing regarding this unit. We also started to talk about the three different ways that heat is transferred, with a focus on convection, as we prepare to talk about the theory of plate tectonics.

A copy of the completed notes can be found below. Students should review and study these notes as they prepare for a quiz on Thursday, May 12th.

Earth's Interior/Heat Transfer Notes

Earth's Layers!

This week, we have been learning about the interior layers of the Earth. Students completed notes today in class on the layers. A copy of the notes can be found below:

Earth's Layers Notes

Earth Day!

Today is Earth Day! Although every day is Earth Day, we took a few minutes in class today to discuss the importance of everyone making changes in order to preserve and protect the Earth, not only for ourselves, but for future generations as well! Take a look at the video below! The artist put together a spoken-word piece on the importance of protecting the Earth!

Rocks and the Rock Cycle

This week, we focused on the three types of rocks and began taking a look at the rock cycle. The notes we took in class are attached below and should be used as a study tool. Next week, we will be exploring the rock cycle further as we prepare to take a quiz on Friday, April 22nd!
